Six realms, equal weight.

A child's day here is divided between six domains, and each gets the same time and the same seriousness. No realm is core. No realm is enrichment. A child who is strong in one is not thereby excused the others, and a child who struggles in one is not thereby defined by it.

Logic

Number, pattern, and working out how things fit together.

Forest

A specific piece of land, returned to across four years and every season.

Word

Reading, writing, arguing, and telling a story properly.

Making

Wood, clay, tools, and building things that have to stand up.

Body

Climbing, running, working outside in whatever the weather is doing.

Sound

Music, played and made, alongside people who do it for a living.

A child who has divided forty seeds between six beds has done long division with their hands.

The village is the curriculum.

The industrial classroom separated children from the working world — from the land, from the arts, from the ordinary business of adults making and growing and governing things. We are doing the opposite. Three relationships are not negotiable here, and all three are within walking distance.

A wild place

A real ecological space, not a school garden. The same one, in every season, for four years. Children keep an illustrated seasonal record of what they see there, and their observations go to citizen science networks that actually use them.

Working land

A food-producing farm with real outputs, not a demonstration plot. Children plant, tend, harvest and cook. The measuring is arithmetic, the beds are biology, and dinner is the proof.

Practitioners next door

The arts space on the site brings working musicians and artists through regularly — [name one or two, honestly]. Not a visiting workshop once a term. People who do the thing for a living, present often enough that the children know them by name.

What a day looks like.

1. 09:00

   Two minutes of quiet

   Before anything else, the whole group sits in silence. It is not explained at length and it is never assessed. It is simply there, every morning.

2. 09:05

   The circle

   Each child says what they are working on today. Anything the group needs to decide gets decided here, by vote, one vote per person including the adults. When the vote goes a way the coach would not have chosen, the vote still stands.

3. 09:30

   Deep work

   Three hours in the realms the child has chosen. The coach circulates, watches, and takes two or three children aside at a time for the exact thing they are ready for — a letter shape, a fraction, a joint.

4. 12:30

   The common table

   Everyone cooks and everyone eats together. There is no separate table for adults.

5. 13:30

   Free play

   Outdoors, unstructured, rain or shine. No adult agenda and no organised activities unless the children start them. This is not a break from the learning. It is a precondition for the afternoon.

6. 14:30

   Work that matters

   The farm, the forest, a building project, the monitoring network. Real work with real outputs — structures that stand, data that gets submitted, food that reaches the table.

7. 16:30

   Going home

   Each child leaves with the next fragment of the story the group is writing together, to read aloud at home — the parents are part of the learning, not spectators of it. There is no homework, unless a child wants to keep going on their own project.
